Mollusks include the cones, octopuses and bivalves. Conus californicus is the only dangerous cone found in North American waters. Its sting produces localized pain, swelling, redness and numbness. The bites of the North American octopus are rarely serious.
TREATMENT: The treatment of Conus stings and octopus bites is largely empirical. Local measures are of little value.
