This series of images shows the steps to building a pond indoors. This particular pond is on the third floor of an office building, and was commissioned to be a relaxing, serene setting.
The first step to building an indoor pond is to choose wallpaper murals for the backdrop. These murals give the feeling of being near a rushing, rocky river in a lush setting
1x10 pine plank with threaded steel shafts are place into a free-form configuration as a base for the pond.
If you can visualize it, it can be created. This shape tucks neatly into the corner, but has a natural configuration to mimic the random forms of nature.
a .45-mil rubber liner is draped over the completed pine plank form to create the water-tight holding area for the pond.
Real, moss-covered rocks are placed around the form to help create the natural look of the pond.
The rocks are placed carefully around the form in a free-form configuration, with gravel scattered about to mimic an outdoor setting.
Additional gravel, realistic silk plants, and the water are added to make this pond match the mural. The water trickles over the stones making a relaxing rippling sound.
Fern, ivy, and a small tree complete the scenery.
With water gently trickling over the moss-covered rocks, and the luch vegetation "growing" all around, this pond achieves its mission to create an indoor oasis.
